We have been experiencing quite a bit of rain these past couple days. It started Friday, and has really not stopped since. And when I say rain, I mean like hurricane, monsoon type stuff. It has been windy, stormy and cold! Actually it's the worst we have seen since we got here. And we thought the worst of the rainy season was over, but I guess it's not. So we are blaming it on the Finks being here. Unfortunately that means we haven't had any good beach days or time to go out sight seeing. We have just been kind of hanging out at the house. Oh well, we can't control the weather!

We have enjoyed having Chris & Heather here to go out in service with us. It's nice to have the company, because a lot of times it's just the two of us. And it's nice to get to share the experience with them too. They are really enjoying our calls and studies. It's just such a joy to get to meet people that want to talk about the bible and want to learn! It really gives you a changed attitude about the work we are doing and how much there is still to do. There is just so much potential here. I think already between the two of us, we are up to around 16 bible studies. (that was a rough count) The fields really seem to be "white for the harvesting" here. So we are just so excited to see where this goes.... We didn't have a big turnout at our meeting again. I think we had 16. But like I said, it was a monsoon out. So a lot of the ones that we were hoping would come, didn't make it. The Martinez family did come though. And all 3 girls answered during the Watchtower study. They are doing really well. The oldest one, Danjah, said she was reading the chapter in the Teach Book about baptism and said "I have a lot of work to do". That made us smile.

I keep forgetting to talk about our sign language group. Heather reminded me that I have to tell you about it though.... There are about 60 people on the island that are deaf. So it was decided that an effort should be made to try to reach these ones with the good news. So an ASL group was started in the Roatan English Congregation. I'm not sure how long ago. I think maybe just a year or two ago. There are many bible studies being conducted, and many of them come to the meetings. I don't have an official count on how many from the territory come to the meetings regularly, but I know of at least 5, I'm sure there are more. I will try to get some more accurate stats in the future. But I do know that there is one that has become a publisher. His name is Craig, and he is a sweetheart. He gave his first bible reading last Wednesday night. One of the sisters said that it was the quietest the Roatan English Congregation has ever been. You could have literally heard a pin drop. All eyes were on stage to watch Craig act out with his hands and face what the bible said. It was great. We really want to learn more sign language to be able to talk with him. So we are adding that to the list with spanish.

We also had our meeting for the pioneers in the congregation, on Saturday. It was really nice, and encouraging. And yes, we are officially members of the Roatan English Congregation now. I think there were 20 of us there as regular pioneers. That's pretty good for a congregation of 47 publishers right? Ok, well, I am going to go. We are going to read our weeks bible reading together this evening as a group. Until next time folks.... Adios!

| Thanks for the Crocs mom... I needed them today! |

Woohoo! I'm the first commenter! I don't have anything particular to say...I just couldn't pass up making the first comment. I kind of got a lump in my throat when you said you are officially members of the Roatan congregation, because I guess that means you're technically not members of the Lewistown congregation anymore. I know this is a good thing, though. you guys are accomplising so much down there and we are proud of you.
ReplyDeleteWe were at a need greater assembly in the DR several years ago. A brother from the branch said that coming to a place that needed help like the DR or there in Roatan you can't go there for the warmer weather, the adventure, the beach or the scenery. To be successful you have to have a love for the people. It is quite evident you guys are going to be successful. Keep up the good work. By the way it is okay to enjoy the beach :) Think of us when you do, it was 5 degrees this morning.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the weather but it's better than back here. It's freezing. In Phoenix when the monsoons hit no one goes out. They even cancel service. Holly couldn't believe it till she experienced it.
ReplyDeleteWe were out once when they had one and it sure beats the thunderstorms here. No matter where we are we just keep enduring. I'm sure it will pass and be beautiful. Enjoying your pics. Say "hola" to my kids.
You are most welcome for the Crocs, too bad I didn't send an umbrella too. Should I send one with Lynn? lol... Hopefully, till they get there the rain will be gone. By the way 20 pioneers sounds like two too many...maybe you should come home with Heather and Chris. Whoops, did I say that out loud? I'm only kidding, I am proud of both of you. I miss you, but can tell by those big smiles you are very happy there...and every mother loves to see her children happy. Sending hugs :)
ReplyDeleteWell, looks like I might have to brush up on some sign language from 30 years ago however my book is in Lewistown!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to visit those new publishers in Roatan---think we might know them!!!! I bet time has gone by quickly for the Fink's. Can't wait to hear the experiences.
Sorry to hear about all the rain :( That's a bummer! But, you are having such wonderful experiences and that is "sunny, bright cheerful news"!! I kinda felt like Terri when you said you were official members of the Roatan English Congregation now... sad for us because we all miss you. However, you are very much needed there and it makes Jehovah happy. Can't wait to talk to the Finks! Love ya both!
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful news about the sign language group. Also congrats on being official Roatan congregation members!
